                                                                                                 PUPPY SUPPLIES LIST

You will need to pre-purchase a few items prior to bringing you puppy home. Some if these things are necessary and others are optional.

1)  PUPPY FOOD - you should have been, or will be contacted by our pet food company, TLC. This is one of the highest quality foods on the market, and all of our dogs thrive on it. You are under no obligation to stay with this food long term, however it is critical that your puppy stay on this food for at least the first month at home. Changing foods abruptly can be very detrimental for a transitioning puppy.

2)  CRATE - If you intend to crate train, this is a necessity. I recommend the metal folding crate with the divider panel, because it can grow with your puppy. You will need at the very least a 36’’ crate, but I would recommend the 42” if you plan for your full grown dog to spend a substantial amount of time there. It should be roomy and comfortable for them, like their own room.

3) SOFTWOOD PELLETS - Your puppy has been trained to “go” on soft-wood pellets in their pen.

4)  HARNESS AND LEASH - You will receive a starter harness and leash in your puppy pack, but this will need to be replaced as your puppy grows.

5)  TOYS - You will need a good supply of toys to prevent puppy boredom. A variety of different types is also helpful, as your puppy will be teething and chewing incessantly. Moving toys will also stimulate and help with development. Having lots of choices will help, so they don’t use you as a chew toy. Some good choices are; hard rubber, rope toys, stuffed toys (specially for puppies), balls, moving baby toys (sound, flashing lights) are just some suggestions. Always insure that they are safe, and check them regularly for wear. I included some examples below of tried and true items.

6)  GROOMING BRUSHES - For the puppy fur, I like and use this one. For full-grown fur, you would graduate to a brush with hard, longer bristles.

7)  BABY GATES - Ensuring that your puppy is in a safe, secure place is important. Just like young children, they are prone to falls, and getting into things that they shouldn’t. Gating off stairs and non-puppy-proofed areas will prevent accidents.

8)  PORTABLE PEN - (optional) A pen can prove helpful for this times when you are not able to supervise your puppy closely, or for extending crating area when you cannot be there.

9)  WATER BOWL/FEED DISHES - Stainless steel or glass dishes with flat bottoms are recommended.

10)  ELECTRICAL SAFETY COVERS - Just as with young children, electrical outlets can be dangerous to puppies.

11) DOG BED - A cozy place to sleep will always be welcome. Puppy may chew the dog bed, so a reinforced, heavy material is advised.

12)  CANNED PUMPKIN - Plain, pure canned pumpkin (plain, no spices) is a great thing to have on hand in the event of minor digestive upset, which can happen due to stress. One tablespoon in food.
